Learning new words helps to develop children’s vocabulary and understanding. Sharing a new word during meal-times is a good way to support conversation and discussion.

 

  1. Say the new word
  2. Repeat the word a few times using a range of expression
  3. Read and repeat the definition
  4. Say a sentence containing the word
  5. Make up a sentence containing the word of the day

Definition: To eat quickly or hungrily.

Definition: When you haven’t got any energy left.

‘Oz is too tired to have fun on the swings.’

Thursday

Drowsy

Definition: When you feel like you are about to fall asleep.

‘Yin and Yang are drowsy after drinking the milk.’

Friday

Exhausted

Definition: When you are very tired and warn out.

‘Bob spills his juice because he is exhausted.’
