Picture 1
In Nursery we have a 5 minute Magic Maths session as part of our day. During this time, we practice a range of counting and shape skills. Through daily repetition we are really securing our counting and shape facts. The document below explains what happens in Magic Maths and the skills that we are learning before we start school.

Magic Maths-explained for parents/carers

This term we will be starting to learn about numbers. We will be learning number 1-5. We will learn about all the different ways that you can represent each number as well as the numeral/digit. We will be looking at each number on a dice, our fingers, number of objects, numicon pieces and much more! We will also be learn a song about each number, learning a rhyme to help us to remember each number and will go on number hunts.

We have been learning about shapes. We have been looking for shapes in our classroom, making pictures with shapes, building with shapes and singing songs about shapes.

Last term we learnt  about the following shapes:

Circle

Triangle

Square

Rectangle

Semi-circle

You can help us at home by looking for shapes in our environment (houses, buses etc.), talking about shapes (round, flat, straight) and finding shapes that are the same or similar.
