Home Learning

We would like to let all of our children and families know that we are thinking of them whilst we are not in school. We hope you all stay safe and well.

To ensure that we can still support and communicate with you whilst the school is closed, we will be updating our website page regularly. The Home Learning aspect of the Scotland and Wales pages will be updated weekly, but we will be adding a blog and more ideas and activities during the week as well. We would love you to stay in contact via the Interactive Learning Diary. The Early Years Team (Nursery and Reception) will be communicating with you through the Interactive Learning Diary (ILD) and also the School App. We are excited to see photographs and videos of the activities you are doing at home, on the ILD. We will reply to the comments you have made.

If you experience any difficulties with the ILD, or are unsure of how to support your child at home, then please complete the 'Scotland Class Contact Us' page below and we will respond as soon as possible, through the School App.

Please check this page regularly for updates.

Thank you,

Wednesday 1st April

Hello!

Wow! There have been lots of exciting activities today! One of the best ways I've seen for reading Red Tricky Words is our photo of the day. We have loved reading the letters that you have been writing and there are two at the bottom of the blog. When you are writing, if you would like to write a letter to one your friends in Scotland Class, I will add it to the bottom of the blog, in 'Friendship Letters', so that your friend can see it. I will also send a message so that they know to look for it. When I finally sort out our page (it's getting very full), I will put the letters in the folder that is in the 'Writing Ideas of the Day' section. If you receive a letter from a friend in Wales Class it will be put in there too.

Remember, if you would like to be one of the 'Superstar Workers of the Week' you need to post to the ILD every day. There are quite a few children who have posted every day this week so far, well done!

Please remember that we have set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day. Well done to those who have posted today for the first time!

As usual we have made our daily updates in the following areas: Art and Crafts, Maths, Science, Stories and Writing.

P.S. Home Learning is a big change of routine for everyone (children, parents and teachers). If you decide that you need to take a break one day, please take a break! If you take a photo of something you decide to do instead, post that on the ILD and you will still be able to get Superstar Worker of the week. Today, the change of routine was too much for one of our Scotland friends so he built a fort, played soldiers, watched a David Attenborough programme and then went hunting for sea life . . . sounds like a good day!

Hello!

I have just been looking at your photos from today and have enjoyed seeing all of the different things you have been doing.

Lots more good money number work, lots of  Read, Write Inc. lessons and reading, lots of PE, dance and Cosmic Yoga and some fantastic writing. When you are writing, if you would like to write a letter to one your friends in Scotland Class, I will add it to the bottom of the blog, in 'Friendship Letters', so that your friend can see it. I will also send a message so that they know to look for it. I have started this today.

Remember, if you would like to be one of the 'Superstar Workers of the Week' you need to post to the ILD every day.

Please remember that we have set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day.

As usual we have made our daily updates in the following areas: Art and Crafts, Maths, Science, Stories and Writing. There is also a new section in 'Get Moving' called 'Real PE at Home'. Here is what Mrs Ash would like to tell you about it:

Good morning,

It has been great that so many of you have been working out with Joe Wicks everyday and keeping yourself active. In addition to that we now have access to Real PE at home which will give you lots of extra physical challenges to keep you active and busy.  Below is some more information about it and how to log on.

Real PE at Home – Online Learning Resource

There different sections you can have a go at - for Early Years and KS1 there is Real Play and Real Foundations where you will find lots of active stories, songs and challenges all based on different themes.

You are not likely to have all the equipment they suggest using at home but you can be creative and use whatever you can from your house - for example there is a balancing game where you have to pick up cones whilst standing on one leg, you could use some of your toys instead - try doing it with Lego pieces for a real challenge!  But please ask your parents permission to use things if they are not yours!

There are so many benefits to being active, not only to our physical wellbeing but also to our emotional and mental health, especially at the moment. We hope that the ideas help support you and your family to stay fit and healthy in the coming months. Here are the details to access real PE at home:

The website address is: home.jasmineactive.com
Parent email: parent@eastwichel-1.com
Password: eastwichel

Click here to view more information to support you including a user guide and FAQs.

Thursday 26th March

Hello!

Thank you for all of the observations that have been sent in from yesterday, and those that have already been sent in today. It was lovely to see some from children we hadn't heard from yet . . . in some cases, I think it was because you have been so busy! Please remember that we have set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day. If you haven't put any photos on the ILD yet, we look forward to seeing you on there very soon.

As I have mentioned previously, it is really important for your child's development that Read, Write Inc phonics continues as much as possible each day.

Wednesday 25th March

Hello!

Well, I was going to start by saying wow, but then I realised that's how I started yesterday. However, wow! You have been so busy!  Once again we've really enjoyed looking at all of the activities that you have been doing and it has been lovely to see more children! Please remember that we have set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day. If you haven't put any photos on the ILD yet, we look forward to seeing you on there very soon.

As I said yesterday, it is really important for your child's development that Read, Write Inc phonics continues as much as possible each day. There are Speed Sounds lessons each day and details can also be found in the What's On section. As well as these lesson, Read, Write Inc. also have 14 free Read, Write Inc eBooks for children to read. These can be found at www.oxfordowl.co.uk/read-write-inc-home. You can find these if you click on the eBooks link underneath 'Read Write Inc Phonics Guide for Parents. Here you will also find other helpful parent videos.

As usual we have made our daily updates in the following areas: Art and Crafts, Maths, Science and Stories. The Lego Challenge in the Arts and Crafts section looks particularly good! If you have any ideas of activities that you would like us to include or you would like ideas for particular activities, please let us know.

Today the lovely Mrs Ash told us about a daily dance class by Oti Mabuse from Strictly Come Dancing. It is on  Youtube, at Oti Mabuse Official at 11.30am. It lasts for 30 mins. This week she is doing Disney classes and has covered Trolls and Shrek so far. They look a lot of fun! I will put the link in The Get Moving! section

Tuesday 24th March

Hello!

Wow! We''ve really enjoyed looking at all of the activities that you have been doing again today . . . some of you have been incredibly busy! We would like to set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day.

If you are finding Home Learning too overwhelming, take a look at the What's On section and choose something to watch and join in. I particularly liked Dough Disco this morning . . . it started with Dough Disco, then there was some Squiggle Whilst you Wriggle and it also included making the Squiggle marks and ideas of how to make them at home. (All that in just 15 minutes)! I will definitely be tuning into this every day! Alternatively, if you are having difficulties with any aspect of the ILD, please contact us using the contact form below.

It is really important for your child's development that Read, Write Inc phonics continues as much as possible each day. These lessons give your child the opportunity to develop their fine motor skills, phonic correspondence, writing and reading skills daily. There are Speed Sounds lessons each day and details can also be found in the What's On section.

We have also added a chart for you to fill in each day if you take part in the 'PE with Joe' sessions. As usual we have made our daily updates in the following areas: Art and Crafts, Maths, Science and Stories. If you have any ideas of activities that you would like us to include or you would like ideas for particular activities, please let us know.

Monday 23rd March

Hello!

I hope you've had a good day and a successful start to your Home Learning. If you found it difficult to manage, it will get better!

I started my day by watching PE with Joe (I was working at the same time)! If you joined in, you must have been exhausted by 9.30am! If you didn't tune in, it's very good, you could try it tomorrow.

Next I watched Dough Disco . . . also fantastic.

During the day I also watched the Read, Write Inc. Speed Sound Lessons. They were very clear and well presented and definitely worth watching in order to properly reinforce the phonics we do at school, and so you can see how the lessons work. Read, Write Inc. will be broadcasting more lessons soon, which we will tell you about when we know more. Definitely try to watch one of these if you didn't see them today. All details are in the chart in the What's On section.

Today, Mrs Biddiscombe and I worked on adding more activities and resources to the web-site. We have organised them into Art and Crafts, Maths, Science and Stories. These sections will have a new activity or resource each school day. As we do this at school. we have also added a 'Word of the Day' section. At school we talk about this at snack time.

There is also a section called Help! Here we have made a potential timetable for how you may like to organise your day if you like more structure. It is based on our timetable at school, where we find that children really do like routines! You may want to use the whole timetable or just the morning or afternoon, or nothing at all!

Today I have also enjoyed looking at the work that has been sent to the ILD. I have commented on each child's work but we are not sure if you can see the comments. If you would like to let us know, please do! You can use the contact form above.

Each day, I will be choosing a photo to put on the web-site so all of our friends can see what we are doing at home.

Sorry this blog is so long today, normal length will resume tomorrow!

Sunday 22nd March

Hello!

Hope you've enjoyed the sunshine this weekend and that you have all had a lovely Mother's Day. Also hope the children remembered to give you the Mother's Day cards that we hid in book bags!

So, Home Learning starts properly tomorrow. We understand that the thought of this is incredibly daunting but please remember that we are here to help you in any way that we can. It also appears that there are lots of very talented, and generous, people around the country who are doing everything that they can to help you too. With this in mind, I have started to compile a chart/timetable that shows the best of the activities that are being made for you. Hopefully, knowing there are activities that you can tune into will make your day a little easier. If you know of any other activities, please let us know so we can add them too. You can find this chart/timetable in the What's On section.

Hello!

If you have started using our Home Learning section already, we hope you are finding it useful.

I have already had a few ILD queries; if you are unable to log-in please e-mail the school office and they will forward the e-mail to me. It's important that you can use the ILD so you can communicate directly with us, we can communicate with you individually and so that we can see the exciting things you are doing.

Today I am adding a 'Get Moving' section to the Home Learning. Scotland Class tried out The Body Coach's '5 Minute Move Kids Workouts' this morning and we loved them! (There were lots of requests for water when we had finished, so they were a good workout)! We hope you enjoy them!

Thursday 19th March

Hello!

I hope you tried the The Body Coach's '5 Minute Move Workout' and enjoyed it.

This morning, Scotland Class decided that it would be good to add our usual Wake and Shake video to our page. You will see that I have added this to the 'Get Moving' section.

We also looked at a very good PDF that explains the Coronavirus for young children, so I have included this for you too.

Reception updates:

We are focusing our learning around Growing this term and in particular "Jack and the Beanstalk" over the next two weeks.

All money raised will go towards developing the FS2 outdoor area. Watch out for pancake photos coming soon!

Staying Healthy lesson: In light of current world news, we were very mindful to promote good hand washing and cleanliness through this week's lessons. The children conducted an experiment with glitter to show how far germs can spread without hand washing and also learnt how to wash their hands correctly. They  loved learning the hand washing song.

Can we remind all parents that children should be reading every day and also following the timetable set out for their Knowledge Organiser home practise.
