Dear families,

Here is a short video to share with you some of the changes we have made in school for our phased partial reopening.

To those of you who have accepted your places and are on our registers to come back in the next few weeks please can we remind you the following:

  • Remember your drop off and pick up times
  • Use your allocated entry point into school
  • Bring your signed home school agreement
  • Bring a water bottle and a coat or sun hat only
  • No other items are permitted into school for safety reasons

No children will be admitted who are not on our registers; who are late and who do not bring these items.

Thank you for your understanding during this time.

Kindest regards

Mrs Paula Phillips

Welcome to Term 6

We hope that you all had a great half term and managed to make the most of this amazing weather.

As we move into Term 6, from Monday 8th June things will start to run a little differently for home learning for Reception.

From Monday the 8th June we will be placing two weeks- worth of home learning at a time onto the class pages for the following areas:

  • Maths
  • Understanding of the world
  • Writing
  • Stories
  • Arts and crafts
  • Get Moving

This is due to the fact that over half of our team will be in school welcoming those returning and the others will be working very hard behind on ensuring home learning still takes place but with less staff power.

We ask you to be patient with us as one teacher will be responding to all home learning posts.

To help in the smooth running in this transition period could we again ask that you:

  • Put all learning into one post
  • Send your ILD post by 4pm

We will still continue to monitor home school learning and will continue to post worker of the day, but we will be removing the posters of the week.

We want to thank you for your continued support during these unprecedented times.

FS2 Team

Monday 1.6.20

Hello and a warm welcome back!

We do hope that you all had a great half term and enjoyed the gorgeous weather we had!

This term our learning will be focussing on Fairy and Traditional Tales.

Can all parents and carers please ensure that they read the important messages from Mrs Phillips and from the Reception team above today’s post : )

A Message from Mrs Drew

I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I need your help!

I am  working on creating a display for the small hall about ways in which you can keeping active. I have had some lovely photos from some children already showing what you are doing to keep active and about what you are looking forward to doing once we can get back to our swimming, gymnastic, dance clubs etc, thank you.  I would like some artwork to go on the display too. Can you help me? Can you be creative and make a model, paint or draw a picture of a piece of sports equipment, you could make a picture of  large football, a big tennis racquet or make a picture/collage of yourself doing your sport. Perhaps you would prefer to write about a few lines about how you keep active instead.

I will be in school the week beginning 1st June you can drop off any art work or writing in a box which will be left outside the front of school.. Don’t forget to pop your name on it somewhere too.  I’m looking forward to seeing how creative you can be.

Mrs Drew

Worker of the day : Seb and his family!

We are just loving how inventive Seb and his family have been when Seb was getting a little tired of home learning, mum and dad changed it up into fun exciting new categories (fun names but still the same content we have been providing) and he gets to choose to do a challenge from each category and then builds up stickers and has earnt himself a popcorn movie night! Below is Seb and his dad relaxing in his movie night den!

Teamwork makes the dream work!

Have a relaxing half term and we look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work on Monday 1st June!

You can find Howard on Instagram as howarddonald.

Virtual visit

Did you know that starfish can regrow their limbs?

Today we are visiting the National Marine Aquarium, in Plymouth; the UK's largest aquarium.

Whilst the aquarium is closed, they have been holding weekly Aquarium Live sessions each Wednesday, on their Facebook page, from 1.00 to 1.30pm.

This week is Meet a Marine Biologist and next week is Let's Talk Sharks!

The website includes fantastic videos of the Rockpool Feed, the Shark and Turtle Feed and the Great Barrier Reef Feed. There is also Aquarium Relax, where you can watch the fish accompanied by calming music. A different video is uploaded each week following the Aquarium's research into the therapeutic qualities of visiting and looking at aquariums.

If you would like to visit the National Marine Aquarium in the future, there is an explore section showing animals to look out for and some interesting facts about them.

Happy exploring!

It is a beautiful book with contributions from more than 110 writers and illustrators. Currently it is only available to read online and it is free. Getting ready for next week’s learning / Eurovision!

To help our learning around respecting and learning about different people and cultures we would like to invite you next week to learn a song in another language (we will be providing learning around 5 different cultures next week with song links, so don’t worry!)

We would like you to send us, via the ILD, a short video of you singing the song you have chosen!

We will then start to post your lovely videos on our blog each evening next week.

As you may have already seen, Miss Francis has shared information linked to the Eurovision contest on her virtual trips page. If you haven’t seen, here it below….

Like Marmite, Eurovision is a love or hate experience.

So this visit is for fans of Eurovision . . . ……or perhaps the kitchen disco!

As Eurovision has obviously been cancelled, on Saturday 16th May (when the final should have taken place), the BBC have organised  a night of Eurovision-themed programmes; so organise some Eurovision themed food and treats, some outfits and enjoy!

BBC One 6.30pm

Eurovision: Come Together

A great show for the whole family to take part in and enjoy.

Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light

'Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light honours all 41 songs that would have competed in the 2020 contest, but in a non-competitive format, as well as providing plenty of surprises for fans and viewers at home.

Just like the contest itself, the live show will be simultaneously broadcast across Europe and beyond and will be hosted from the Netherlands by Dutch presenters Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit.

There will be an unforgettable virtual sing-a-long where fans from across the world will dress up and form a huge Eurovision choir to perform Johnny Logan's winning song for Ireland in 1980, What's Another Year.

Graham Norton will provide live commentary for BBC One viewers.'

All of the links can be found in the “Activities” section in the class virtual trips page.

Happy singing and dancing!

Home PE Blast Off

We have a new activity in the Get Moving! section. It's called Blast Off and it is a throwing and catching game. It is played in pairs but you can also play it in teams with other pairs. It looks fun!

Acts of kindness: Annamaria and her family!

In readiness for our learning about different cultures next week, Annamaria and her family very kindly put together a video to help us learn Greek!

Χαίρετε!

BANK HOLIDAY TOMORROW-V.E DAY

Tomorrow we will be honouring the bank holiday and will be celebrating V.E day!

We will be adding some V.E day inspired craft (bunting etc) along with some learning materials linked to V.E day so you can share with your child why we are celebrating! This will be located in the arts and crafts tab.

You may want to have a little picnic outside and display your bunting and play some war time music?

We will not be responding to posts that day but if you would like to upload a post to the ILD of how your family celebrated V.E day ready for the Monday, we would  absolutely love that!

Next week’s learning:

Next week we will be continuing our learning around “Dear Greenpeace.”

In Maths we will be focussing on patterns. In Science we will be looking at different pollution experiments. Our word of the day will also be linked again to pollution along with changes in our songs , arts and crafts and stories tabs.

A new writing challenge will be posted, as usual ,mid- week on Wednesday.

Writing challenge!

We would like you to write a letter to Mrs Phillips asking her to help us to clean up the oceans.

Here is Mrs Phillips response to Teddy’s, Aanya’s and Nitanshi’s letters from yesterday!

Virtual visit

As it is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day tomorrow, we thought we would have a celebratory VE Day visit.

The visit is to the Poppy Scotland website (following the tip-off from Miss Algeo, who is becoming an expert at spotting Virtual Educational Visits)!

The VE Day 75 section of the website is fantastic, there are so many activities and resources that there should be something for everyone. I particularly liked the PowerPoint, Veteran's Voices, Singalong Sheets, History of VE Day and Party Ideas and VE Day in London. The Veteran's Voices section has interviews with three veterans to capture their experiences, with the message Watch Listen Learn Discuss Remember. Most of the Street Party ideas can be used as a Household Party instead of a Street Party; there are singalong sheets and links to learn the Jitterbug dance! The VE Day in London section shows Churchill's and the King's speeches and footage of the crowds celebrating.

All of the links, and more, are in the Miscellaneous section on the virtual educational trips tab under classes.

Happy exploring!

NEW: Writing challenge!

We would like you to write a letter to Mrs Phillips asking her to help us to clean up the oceans.

You may want to mention how the oceans are being polluted and in which ways we could save the turtles and other sea animals that are being harmed by our waste?

We will of course forward a selection to Mrs Phillips and see if she will help us!

You will find the new challenge in the writing idea of the day tab 6.5.20

Virtual visit

As the weather has improved again, we have a good outdoor visit today. We are visiting The Eden Project in Cornwall. The Eden Project was designed to demonstrate the importance of plants and to promote the sustainable use of plant resources. My favourites are 'If Plants Were the Size of Fruit', 'How to Make a Recycled Marble Run', 'How to Build a Water Assault Course' and 'How to Recycle a Milk Container into a Beautiful Bird'. There is also a particularly good section 'Join the Fight Against Marine Plastic' which has lots of useful ways to cut down our use of plastic.

Aquarium visit!

Today we are visiting the New England Aquarium, in Boston.

The site has a lot of photos and information about many of its thousands of ocean animals. There is a Giant Ocean Tank webcam and a Penguin webcam; of these, the tank is by far the best because the penguins are often asleep when we are awake due to time difference. (If you love penguins, the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Edinburgh Zoo webcams are fantastic and the links are in the Wildlife Parks and Zoos section).

My favourite part of the aquarium website is Aquarium Blogs. Here you can find lots of virtual visits, including: Sea Turtle Hospital Tour, A Dive Inside the Giant Ocean Tank and Armoured and Venomous Fish Feeding! The Aquarium usually also offers Whale Watch tours and the Whale Watch page has some fantastic photos from these. There is also a Fun Activities for Kids section, including Counting the Fish in the Sea.

All of the links are in the Aquariums section of the virtual visits tab under class pages.

Happy exploring!

We know you are showing amazing kindness and community spirit at the moment. Please let us know what you have been doing and we will share it on our blog. For example; have you dropped a note into a neighbour who is on their own? Sent someone some rainbow post etc. Please let us know it warms the cockles of our pirate hearts!

BANK HOLIDAY THIS FRIDAY V.E DAY

This Friday we will be honouring the bank holiday and will be celebrating V.E day!

We will be adding some V.E day inspired craft (bunting etc) on Thursday along with some learning materials linked to V.E day so you can share with your child why we are celebrating!

You may want to have a little picnic outside and display your bunting and play some war time music?

We will not be responding to posts that day but if you would like to upload a post to the ILD of how your family celebrated V.E day ready for the Monday, we would  absolutely love that!

Coronavirus Stories

If your child has shown that they are worried about the Coronavirus, or if it is something you would like to talk to them about, Oxford Owls have a new eBook called ‘Everybody Worries’ by John Burgerman. It is a bright and friendly picture book that shows it’s okay to have worries and worry about the Coronavirus. In a fun way, it also gives very useful ideas of things to do if you are feeling worried.

We have seen some lovely pirate instructions, as Miss Algeo and myself have forgotten how to make hats!

Remember when spelling, to let your child sound out the word using their Fred fingers. We are not looking for perfect spelling but instead would rather see your child using their phonics unless it is one of their red tricky words.

As the theatre company have been unable to continue their normal programme of classes, events and workshops, Tina has been doing a daily story session, with puppets, on Facebook and YouTube. This means there is now a big collection of brilliant stories to watch, including 'The Gruffalo', 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' and so many more. Friday 24.4.20

HELLO you scurvy lot!

IMPORTANT

We are slightly changing how we are going to post new activities onto our blogs starting Monday.

You will see a welcome video posted by your child’s class teacher each Monday morning on your class blog, letting you know what work will be covering that week along with what we have noticed has gone really well.

We will also no longer be updating the tabs daily but instead will post a week’s worth of curriculum-based activities for the week for Maths, Science, Stories, Word of the day, Songs and Art . This will allow you to have the flexibility to plan your week  how it works best for your family and for example if you wanted to have a Science day and do all the Science activities on one day, that is completely up to you guys!

Please remember that we have set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day and this will continue.

NEW!

Let’s get musical! Why not sing along to this great Pirate themed songs this week in the new songs tab below.

HELLO me landlubbers!

Today we have an exciting new activity in the Get moving! Section today from Mrs Ash.

It’s called Name in Exercises. There is a chart with each letter of the alphabet and an exercise for each letter… so you can do your name in exercises! You could also do your friend’s names or the manes of your favourite characters.

Have fun!

Counting in 2s

Wow, wow wow! We have counting geniuses in Wales class. Some people have also extended themselves to working with money in 2s and 5s and 10s. There’s no stopping you all!

Pirate stories

Below are some more lovely stories that have already reached me across the waves! I am loving that people are also wanting to dress up as pirates as they write! Magic!

 Virtual Class Visits

Especially for Scotland Class and Wales Class, Miss Francis has put a special 'Pirates' visit on the Virtual Educational Visits page today . . . you might like to go and explore it. This is what she wrote about the visit:

Today's visit is to the Royal Museums in Greenwich; including the National Maritime Museum and the Cutty Sark, one of the fastest clipper ships of its day.

As all of the museums are closed, they have developed a section called The Journey Continues. Here you can find Stories from The Sea, which includes some really good videos for inspiring and developing poem and story writing, from EYFS to Key Stage 2.

The Pirate section has so many activities! My favourites are videos called, 'Act Like Pirate' and 'Live Like a Pirate'! There is also a Pirate Activities section, including games and making activities and a Pirate Objects and Images section.

Finally I have also added a fun tour (not from The Royal Museums) of a Pirate Ship!

There, as always, have been daily updates made in the Science , Maths, Art and Story tabs for you to enjoy.

Word of the day: Materials

Worker of the day: Well done to Robyn!

Check out her lovely pirate story below. We are very impressed!

Remember, if you would like to be one of the 'Posters of the Week' you need to post to the ILD every day. There are quite a few children who have posted every day this week so far, well done!

Please remember that we have set the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day.

Tomorrow we will be giving you an update about the Read, Write, Inc. Speed Sounds lessons and also telling you about a few changes in the way we will be adding activities to our class pages. Hopefully the changes will make things easier for both you and us.

Have a lovely evening and we look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work tomorrow!

Pirate stories

Join us me hearties in writing your very own pirate adventure story this week! We cannot wait to read your stories. Why not use the paper template provided in the writing ideas of the day tab?

We will post the best story on Friday for everyone to read!

Remember it needs to have:

- A beginning, exciting event in the middle and an ending

- Be focused on handwriting being well formed on the lines

- Include some longer polysyllabic words such as “disgusting!” . . . remember to break up the words and use your Fred Fingers to spell them. (We would really love to see that you have used your Fred Fingers to help you spell the words yourself, rather than asking someone to spell them for you).

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory | Chapter 11

Mrs Biddiscombe reads chapter 11 of Roald Dahl's classic story.

IMPORTANT -Easter holidays information

Over the holidays we would like you to have a break and relax with your family. We do however understand that 2 weeks is a very long time inside and without structure. If you wish to continue with the timetable structure, we have posted the following items ready for the holidays in our new Easter tab and are all Easter themed:

- Arts and crafts

- Stories

- Maths

- Science

There will not be new daily additions and it is to be used to dip into over the holidays if needed.

Similarly, there is no need to post everyday as we have in term time but if you would like to send a weekly summary post on each of the weekends that would be fab!

The teachers will not be responding to posts until term time resumes again on Monday 20th April.

We will however be adding a new chapter of the Charlie and the Chocolate factory story each weekday over the holiday period and you will be notified by text when it is posted.

RWI information for over Easter

During the Easter holidays (excluding Bank Holidays), the Read, Write Inc. Speed Sounds lessons that have been shown so far will be replayed. Once each complete set has been shown, one a day from each set will continue to be played during the Summer Term.

After the Easter holidays, there will be lessons to help children read words with Set 1 Speed Sounds and also lessons to help children spell words with Set 1, 2 and 3 Speed Sounds.

These can all be found on the Ruth Miskin Training YouTube channel  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Tuesday 24th March pm

Hi all!

Wowsers what a busy lot you have all been today!

I have been amazed by all of your home learning! I would really like us as a class community to set our selves the challenge of every child having at least one photo or work sample uploaded to the ILD each day.

If you are finding it at all tricky knowing what to do or where to start, please see the suggested time table below in the "HELP!" tab. Alternatively, if you are having difficulties with any aspect of the ILD please just drop us a line in the contact us box.

It is really important for your child's development that Read, Write Inc phonics continues as much as possible each day .These lessons give your child the opportunity to develop their fine motor skills, phonics correspondence, writing and reading skills daily. There is a lesson broadcasting each day (the timetable tells you in the Help! section what time and where)

https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ/videos

Just a reminder also that in the get moving tab under "P.E with Joe" there is now a chart for you to fill in each day with your child. There has also been a daily update in the following areas: Science, Maths,Stories and Arts and crafts.

Today's word of the day is: Flowering.

Todays "Work of the day" goes to Sebastien for his learning around the life cycle of a frog.smiley

Interactive Learning Diary- Technical Issues

Good Morning all, we hope you are all enjoying the sunshine. We understand that there are some technical difficulties at the moment with parents receiving comments back from teachers from observations made on the ILD. We apologise for this inconvenience. We have been in contact with the ILD team and it should be fixed by the end of the week. In the mean-time, we will respond to parents via the school text app. A new parents app for the ILD should be released at the end of the week and should resolve all issues.

Early Years are slightly different to the rest of the school who are using Class Dojo as all of your observations can be linked directly to learning assessments as part of your child's portfolio.

If you have any further difficulties, please leave a message using the 'contact us' section on your child's class page of the website and we will respond as soon as possible.

Thank you, Mrs Biddiscombe.

Monday 23rd March

Hello everyone!

Mrs B is back! I am so happy to be with you all again.

Today Miss Francis and I have been very busy little bees and have added a few extra things for you to do along with some helpful hints.

If you look at the tab marked "Help!" You will see a proposed timetable to help you order the day as if your child was at physical school. This is a guide only and can be adapted to suit your home and family requirements.

Miss Francis and I have also added a daily Arts and Crafts, Science, Stories and Maths section to help you with activity ideas and some work that you could potentially print out. You will also see that there is now a "Word of the day" section that will be changed weekly. These weekly grids give you a word to discuss each day maybe over lunch or dinner time?

We have also been busy looking at your uploads to the ILD of the your children's work.

Today's "Work of the day" goes to Annamaria's for her fabulous doubling work!

We really look forward to seeing more of your work tomorrow and I will be up bright and early in the morning in my workout leotard to join you guys in doing the Joe Wicks P.E challenge!

Sunday 22nd March

Hello!

Hope you've enjoyed the sunshine this weekend and that you have all had a lovely Mother's Day. Also hope the children remembered to give you the Mother's Day cards that we hid in book bags!

So, Home Learning starts properly tomorrow. We understand that the thought of this is incredibly daunting but please remember that we are here to help you in any way that we can. It also appears that there are lots of very talented, and generous, people around the country who are doing everything that they can to help you too. With this in mind, I have started to compile a chart/timetable that shows the best of the activities that are being made for you. Hopefully, knowing there are activities that you can tune into will make your day a little easier. If you know of any other activities, please let us know so we can add them too. You can find this chart/timetable in the What's On section.

Tomorrow Mrs Biddiscombe will be back in control of the Wales Class web-page. We will be planning everything together as we usually do, but we will be writing our own little daily updates. Hope you all enjoy your Home Learning!

F. Francis

Wednesday 18th March

Hello!

If you have started using our Home Learning section already, we hope you are finding it useful.

I have already had a few ILD queries; if you are unable to log-in please e-mail the school office and they will forward the e-mail to me. It's important that you can use the ILD so you can communicate directly with us, we can communicate with you individually and so that we can see the exciting things you are doing.

Today I am adding a 'Get Moving' section to the Home Learning. Scotland Class tried out The Body Coach's '5 Minute Move Kids Workouts' this morning and we loved them! (There were lots of requests for water when we had finished, so they were a good workout)! We hope you enjoy them!

Thursday 19th March

Hello!

I hope you tried the The Body Coach's '5 Minute Move Workout' and enjoyed it.

This morning, Scotland Class decided that it would be good to add our usual Wake and Shake video to our page. You will see that I have added this to the 'Get Moving' section.

We also looked at a very good PDF that explains the Coronavirus for young children, so I have included this for you too.

Reception updates:

We are focusing our learning around Growing this term and in particular Jack and the Beanstalk over the next two weeks.

We are going to be looking at different forms of growth including, but not exclusively: How beanstalks and plants grow, how tadpoles grow into frogs and life cycles.

Our story focus this week is: "Jack and the Beanstalk."

Our Pancake Party was a huge success! The children really enjoyed themselves whilst experiencing pancake themed games , stories such as "Mr Wolf's pancakes" and best of all eating the pancakes! All money raised will go towards developing the FS2 outdoor area. Watch out for pancake photos coming soon!

Staying healthy lesson: In light of current world news, we were very mindful to promote good hand washing and cleanliness through this weeks lessons. The children conducted an experiment with glitter to show how far germs can spread without hand washing and also learnt how to wash their hands correctly. They absolutely loved learning the hand washing song. Please see photos in the folder below.

Can we remind all parents that children should be reading every day and also following the timetable set out for their knowledge organiser home practice.

Please can we also ask that all children have their water bottle , book bag and reading book and diary in school every day.

Lastly can we say what a pleasure it had been teaching your children. They are learning so much each and every day, hour, minute and second. Being in school everyday is really making the difference.

Have a fantastic day !

FS2 Team.
