Our PE Days are Tuesday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor).
This term, we are continuing with our topic “Let’s get ready to rumble”. Having learnt about earthquakes last term, this term’s focus will be volcanoes. We will be thinking about what a volcano is, what causes a volcano, what causes a volcanic eruption and also how does a volcanic eruption impact people’s lives?
In English this term, we are studying a story from a historical setting “Escape from Pompeii” which transports us back to the 24th August AD79 to the fateful day that Mount Vesuvius erupted. In the story, we meet a boy called Tranio and follow him as he tries to escape the danger ahead of him. We will also be exploring a new type of poetry; a Haiku.
Fractions and time will be the focus of Maths this term. Why not have a look at this term’s Knowledge Organiser to find out more about the learning focus?

In English this term will be be studying the test Oliver and the Sea Wigs and using this as inspiration for our own adventure stories. The book sounds so exciting and we can't wait to read it. Here is the blurb, we hope you are as excited as we are.
"For as long as he can remember, Oliver has been travelling the world, having exciting adventures with his explorer parents. But he's actually quite pleased when they realise they are no longer any blank spaces left on the map to explore, and decide to head home to Deepwater Bay, where Oliver can have his own bedroom and go to school.
But Oliver's peaceful life at Deepwater Bay is soon interrupted when his parents mysteriously disappear. Teaming up with some unusual new friends - a grumpy albatross, a short-sighted mermaid, and a friendly island called Cliff - Oliver sets out to rescue them. But first he must defeat the evil Stacey De Lacey and his pesky army of sea monkeys..."

Stuff the Bustard - Children in Need
We have had a fantastic start to the year and are so excited to start our topic "We are off to a rocky start". During the topic, the children will have the opportunity to become archaeologists and explore stone age artefacts, complete a case study on a stone age settlement and create their own cave paintings.
If you are interested in volunteering in school please come in and see us; we love having helpers in! (You will need to be DBS checked, if you haven't already been checked please see Mrs Drew in the office.)
Please do come and see me should you have any concerns. We want you and your child/ren to be happy at East Wichel.
Many thanks for your continued support.
